Happy Leif Erikson Day!

Why doesn't old Leif E. get credit for any accomplishment in the discovery of America? After all, he came to North America in 1003, almost 490 years before Columbus. Luckily, the American government realized the great need to recognize the mostly unknown explorer and, in 1964, officially made October 9th "Leif Erikson Day." I'm sure that would have made his parents proud, if they were still with us.

Since this is a fairly new holiday for me, let me know how you usually spend Leif E. Day, or what you would consider to be an appropriate way to celebrate a day honoring a Viking explorer.

i think we as a youth group should have made a cardboard car costume for the RKVMobile and made it look like a viking ship, and then all of us put on fur coats and horned viking helmets and flailed out the windows while driving through downtown senoia all day. it would've been great.
oh well. there's always next year. ^-^
